Roads - street cleaning programme

Summary

Roads - street cleaning
programmeThe District Council undertakes regular street cleansing to meet the required standards as laid down in the Litter Code of Practice and under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

Further information

The Council are responsible for the sweeping of the streets and the removal of litter.

The District's streets are divided into zones, depending on the volume of traffic using the streets each day. The more frequently the road is used, the more often it will be swept.

The channels (gutters) are swept four times each year, on a rota basis (main roads are swept weekly) and the footways (pavements) are mechanically swept four times each year.

However, if the visual appearance of an area should deteriorate to an unacceptable level between cleans, it will be cleaned up as soon as possible.

If you feel your road is not swept or litter picked satisfactorily or have any other comments or questions please contact us and let us know.

Please note – we are only responsible for public areas. We are unable to maintain privately owned land.
