Pollution control - water
Working with the Environment Agency in a number of ways to prevent or control pollution. This is done by prompt reporting of incidents, ensuring that emissions from industries controlled by the Council are properly controlled and by preventing pollution of water by dealing with any contamination of land.
How to report water pollution
Contact our Environmental Health Department and give details of the incident. It will be assessed by a professional officer who will determine whether it is a matter which the Council can take action on, or whether it should be referred to the Environment Agency.
Local Authorities and the Environment Agency regulate industrial processes to ensure the reduction and prevention of emissions to air, water and land. The Council currently regulates 35 processes under Pollution Prevention Control permits within the District. If you are an operator of one of these processes you need to obtain a permit from us in order to operate. If the application is successful, the permit will include conditions aimed at preventing pollution or reducing it to acceptable levels.
Our powers for pollution control
