Pollution control - construction information and advice

Summary

Pollution control - construction
                           information and adviceAdvice and information for developers and for the local community on risks of pollution from construction and demolition work. The local authority will monitor construction work to minimise pollution caused by noise, dust and other nuisances.

Each site is different and contact with the Environmental Protection Team is advised to identify appropriate controls. Prior approval procedures are available for noise and dust generation (there is no charge for these).

  1. Please contact the Council with details of the work and associated noise that is likely to be generated by:
    1. Telephone
  2. Once your application has been received an officer will arrange to visit the site and discuss the proposal;
  3. The application will then be approved or refused and the appropriate notice sent to you.

How to apply for prior consent for dust

Further information

Most construction and demolition sites are well managed and do not cause problems for the surrounding community. However others, due to their nature or close proximity to houses, give rise to complaints. Some sites are inherently sensitive due to planning or design issues that arose prior to the start of site activities.

The most common problems that arise are noise (from operations or deliveries), dust, and smoke from bonfires.

If complaints are received, officers will generally visit sites and try to resolve problems with the site manager, without resorting to formal enforcement action. However early contact with the Environmental Protection Team is always recommended.
