Further information
A year long study into the accommodation needs of Gypsies and Travellers is available above.
The research was carried out by Birmingham University on behalf of all Local Authorities in Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland. The Government has asked every Council in England to carry out assessments as part of their planning and housing duties.
The study provides a wealth of information on the Gypsy and Traveller population in Leicestershire. Key findings include recommendations on the number of caravan pitches needed in each Local Authority area. This will help Councils to draw up planning and housing policies that will take into account Gypsies’ and Travellers’ needs.
