Hairdresser and barber licences


Hairdressers and barbers are required to register themselves and their premises under section 23 of the Leicestershire Act 1985. The requirement to register extends to mobile hairdressers (personal registration only) and practitioners working from home. Failure to register yourself and/or your premises could result in you being issued with a court awarded fine of up to £1000.

How to apply for a Hairdresser Registration

  1. Download and read the application and safe practice guidance.
  2. Download, print and complete the application form and return it with the appropriate fee to:                                           Licensing Section, Blaby District Council, Desford Road, Narborough Leicestershire LE19 2EP
  3. The fees for registration are set out below. 

       Premises Registration  -  £110      

 Personal Registration    -   £65

What happens next?

Following the receipt of a completed application form to register a premises an officer will contact you and arrange to visit and inspect your premises. After the inspection, if your premises are found to be safe and compliant, you will be issued with a registration certificate which must be displayed at your premises. Applicants making a personal registration will also receive a registration certificate.

Further Information  

Activities such as Ear Piercing, Electrolysis, Tattooing and Acupuncture are also required to be registered. For more information on these activities please see the appropriate pages on our website.
